Vblock Enables Hospital to Leverage Electronic Health Records
Gordon Memorial Hospital is a small facility located in Gordon, Nebraska a town with a population around 1,600. The hospital provides inpatient care to residents in Nebraska and a portion of South Dakota, along with outpatient services to its attached walk-in clinic and off-site clinic in Rushville.
Since 2011, the hospital’s entire infrastructure ran off a single server. With the growing demand in services and increase in patient numbers, they were looking to replace the aged infrastructure with one that could support an electronic health record solution (EHR). After attending an EMC Executive Briefing Exchange with AOS and learning more about the VCE Vblock System, their team knew this would be an adequate solution to their problem.
“We decided to partner with AOS because they offered the best systems available to not just meet our needs, but to expand the services we could offer, and grow with us into the future” said Tyler Fisher, CIO of Gordon Memorial Hospital.
Moving forward in the process, Fisher was challenged once again when their EHR solution vendor informed them that the Vblock was not certified for their system. However, after explaining why the Vblock was the best fit for their organization, the vendor approved the request for its certification. Gordon Memorial Hospital became the first Meditech 6.x customer to put their system on a Vblock and has quickly formed a trend among the healthcare industry.
The Vblock System was pre-designed for quick install into their system, and arrived within four weeks and stood up in only a day and a half. After one week, the infrastructure was fully configured and ready to run the EHR solution. Gordon Memorial Hospital selected to purchase EMC Data Domain and EMC Networker software to optimize and accelerate its backup and deduplication process, in order to maintain a similar copy of its data at its Rushville clinic. They have also moved other applications over to the virtualized environment on the Vblock System including Microsoft Exchange server, Microsoft SharePoint server, video desktop infrastructure (VDI), and many others.
“AOS was integral to the success of our Vblock acquisition, implementation, and to our current plans to leverage it to expand the services we offer. Because of all these things, we have utilized AOS for many other projects since we made the initial Vblock purchase, and will continue to rely on AOS as our trusted partner for the foreseeable future,” stated Fisher. “The effort AOS puts forth to meet face to face and make a real connection is important, especially when you live in a rural area of the state. Its differentiator is the technical expertise and friendliness of their professional service people and their ability to always impress on their performance.”
